The Gael is a fun PDF sewing pattern to create a basic, yet not so basic shirt for the tiniest models. Gael features a straight hemline and rounded hemline with facing. Choose between short or long sleeves and to make it easy to put it on and off, you can choose to make it with buttons on the shoulder. This way, it will even fit those little babies with their bigger heads without a hassle. Gael is a unisex pattern, but you can embellish it with the optional double shoulder flutter to create a fun, girly look. Gael is a true staple pattern to have in your baby or toddler’s closet all year round. Just when you thought it couldn’t get better: with the code in our Facebook group, you can download this pattern for free.
Skill Level for the Gael Shirt
Gael is perfectly suitable for beginning sewists. Every part of the construction is explained clearly and step by step in the instructions. The only interesting parts might be the optional shoulder flutters, the optional shoulder snaps and using a bias band as neckline finish, but this will be a piece of cake when following the instructions and go slowly.

Suggested material for the Gael shirt
To create a Gael Shirt, we suggest to use medium weight knit fabrics with at least 30% stretch like: cotton lycra, jersey, interlock or French terry. You can also use a more light weight knit fabric like cotton spandex, but keep in mind that you might need to size down if you choose to use a thinner fabric or a fabric type with more stretch than recommended.
For the binding or bands you can choose to use either ribbing or use the same fabric as the shirt (main fabric). The Gael Shirt comes with pattern pieces for the different types of fabrics, but you might need to adjust depending on the amount of stretch and recovery if you choose a different type of fabric for the bands.
