Tutorial by Brenda Hennis-Verbaan

English tutorial

Step 1: cut the pattern pieces

Start with cutting out the pattern pieces. The amount of pattern pieces depends on the pattern. Here in the picture the circle skirt is made out of two pieces that we sew together.

Step 2: mark the hem allowance

Mark the hem allowance on the piece. There are different ways for this.  I showed two here.

You can use a pen or fabric pencil to mark your seam allowance
Or use a large basting stitch to mark your seam allowance.

Step 3: Fold the hem

Use your iron to fold the hem inwards. Press well. If desired you can use pins or clips to hold.

Step 4: Sew the hem

When you’re done folding the entire hemline, sew the hem close to the raw edge of the fold. You can do this by using a coverstitch machine (pictured) or with your regular sewing machine using a zigzag or twin needle. You can cut away excess fabric next to the inner side of the hem.

Done!

That’s it! Enjoy your improved hems on circle skirts.
